Reading Retrospective 2013

What a year for books! I thought it was impressive that I broke my first reading record of 71 books way back in 2006, by reading 74 books in 2010! This year I set my reading goal at 60 books but was somehow able to destroy that goal and set an awesome new reading record with 80 books read! I can’t even explain how excited this makes me; I didn’t see it happening and didn’t plan it, it just happened!

Well since I read so many, let’s talk about the books! I started out the year with some amazing novels, in particular Almost Like Being in Love by Steve Kluger and The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. These three novels were such a great way to start the year! I continued trying out the classics, and this time, found some that I thoroughly enjoyed (although there were still some that didn’t quite jive with me). I found some great contemporary fiction novels with Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Book Store by Robin Sloan, The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt and Our Daily Bread by Lauren B. Davis; these works were quite refreshing, fun, and disturbing, respectively, but each were also well-written and great works. I continued reading some of my favourite authors (Abigail Roux, Sandra Brown, Chelsea Cain and Ian Rankin) and took a greater interest in non-fiction works.

The most read authors, this year, are pretty even. Abigail Roux, once again takes a spot as one of my most read authors (she took the honour last year with 9 novels read) with 4 novels; tied for second most read are authors Sandra Brown and Philippa Gregory at 5 novels each; and the author that takes the lead for most read is Chelsea Cain at 6!

As with every Reading Retrospective, I hope you take a look and find something that peaks your interest. This year, there are plenty of titles to look at, with a wide range of topics and genres covered!
